Self Publishing is something that may sound like smooth and easy sailing. But trust me, it has as many adventures as any book you'll read.

I started self publishing 13 years ago. It was a children's book, pirates, sea monsters, a hidden valley, everything that made up the classic stories kids used to read. But, traditional publishing houses wouldnt publish it, said it was too old fashioned. Well, I figured that there would still be those out there who would find pleasure in such stories. So, I decided I'd get it published on my own.

I had no idea what it took to self publish and started on an adventure that never ends. With self publishing, you have more control over ypur book style and content.

This is the biggest plus for me but there's also alot of tasks you have to take up on your own. Editing is one of these. I have edited all of my books personally but it's not as hard as it could be. There are editing programs for writers that will highlight places that need work. My favorite one to use is Style Writer. And for proofreading I'd recommend getting a trusted family member or friend to read over the writing as you go along. I have missed corrections in stories because I know what I want it to say and my mind simply registers that although it's not on paper.

Marketing is easier now due to the popularity of social media. But ddon't just rely on that. Reach out to local papers and libraries to generate interest in your work.
